The Whittaker

Project Overview

The Whittaker is a eight-story two-building complex in West Seattle with 372 apartment units and 70,000 SF of commercial space. Named after Jim Whittaker, a West Seattle resident and the first American to summit Mount Everest, the project honors the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, as well as West Seattle’s heritage and connections to the water, parks, and local beaches.

At the street level, the project includes a number of retail spaces, including a 43,000 SF Whole Foods grocery, and public amenities including pocket plazas, seating areas, bike amenities, water features, green walls, and art sculptures. Along 40th Ave SW, lush rain gardens planted with native PNW plant species treat stormwater in the right-of-way, and serve as an art element with steel sculptures integrated in a river-rock steam with granite boulders.

An interior courtyard features a jewelbox lounge, dining areas, a variety of seating areas, a bocce court, turf lawn, and private patios for the residents. Roof deck spaces provide expansive views to downtown and the Cascade mountains beyond.
